Lovebirdland Sculpture Dedication ~ Loveland |
|||
![]() Time: 4:15 PM Enter into an elaborate children’s book illustration along the new Highway 287 Underpass with Lovebirdland, the latest addition to the City of Loveland’s public art collection. Installed along the trail at 64th Street, Lovebirdland is a series of cast concrete relief murals completed by artists Mary Lucking and Pete Goldlust. The artwork forms a continuous, non-repeating band of swirling, cartoon-like imagery across a span of over 4,000 square feet. This expansive work is populated by a menagerie of whimsical birds, bugs, and assorted other imaginary creatures that fly, hop, crawl and peek out from a field of playfully odd, swaying plants. The art piece wraps around a series of retaining walls that frame the new section of pedestrian and bicycle path. The imagery unfolds for viewers as they pass into and out of an underground pathway, suggesting entry into an elaborate children’s book illustration. The Visual Arts Commission will honor the artists’ work during the June 7, 2011 Grand Opening of North US 287 Underpass and trail at 64th Street in honor of the American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day®. Presentations will start at 4:15 PM. A short bike trip to the Swim Beach at Boyd Lake State Park will start at 5:00 p.m. hosted by the City of Loveland P&R staff.
